Message from Henk Oude Brunink, President of the EUEW

History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” A fitting thought in this year in which we celebrate our 70th (!) EUEW anniversary. A year that has started off with and will most likely continue with elections, shifts and changes in many countries across Europe and the world. Do we recognise shimmering echoes of recent and distant pasts? The unfolding of some same old stories, but appearing in new versions and new forms?

History does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes” is a quote from Mark Twain. How we understand and interpret the quote is probably very personal and subjective. The fact that there is no convincing evidence that Mark Twain is indeed to thank for this line, is not surprising in these times in which we all have seem to cherish our own truth.

For the by now old and wise, yet fresh and sharp EUEW this is all the more reason for respecting our differences and, at the same time, identifying and leveraging what we have in common. Representing the joint interests of electrotechnical distributors in Europe and supporting their success, we can boast a strong tradition of keeping a clear head and carrying on, regardless of the challenges that lay ahead. The EUEW is all of us, and that is why I make an appeal to all of us to join in, participate in our exchange of insights and contribute to the understanding of mutual (self)interests.

I am confident the topics in this EUEW Newsletter will form a first inspiration for your participation. Next to that, you might be interested in one or more of our easily accessible webinars. In Initiative Multiplier webinars, an EUEW-member or peer organisation presents a concrete initiative that we believe is interesting for others to know about and potentially build on. In Expert Update webinars, relevant legislation, guidelines, and trends are identified, interpreted and translated into relevant local impact for members.

Sharing is multiplying. There are many opportunities (and responsibilities) to empower our shared objectives, to accomplish together something that we cannot realise alone. And, although digital meetings are efficient, the best way to understand, align and join forces, is of course still to personally meet each other. That is why I am looking forward to, and truly happy to invite you to Helsinki for our bi-annual EUEW Business Convention that will also include a celebration of our 70 years anniversary. Looking forward to you and to our future!
