As always, the first newsletter of a new year presents an excellent opportunity to look back on key activities from the previous year.

2024 was a significant year for EUEW, marking the launch of our new work programme and the introduction of our Expert Updates and Initiative Multipliers.
Green Packaging: A Supply Chain Approach

Sustainability remains a crucial topic within the electrotechnical industry, with packaging playing a vital role in this discussion. In Europe, 40% of plastic and 50% of paper consumption is attributed to packaging, making industry-wide collaboration essential. EUEW’s Initiative Multiplier on Green Packaging provided a platform for the Dutch Federation, FEDET, to present its ‘Packaging Industry Plan’—a project aimed at reducing packaging waste and promoting a circular economy. By bringing together manufacturers, wholesalers, and installers, this initiative has gained considerable traction, with nearly 50 companies committing to its 2025 goals.
Demystifying the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)

The European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is shaping the future of business transparency, leaving many organisations navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. In this Expert Update, EUEW aimed to simplify CSRD by breaking down its key elements and highlighting its implications for electrical wholesalers. Attendees gained a clearer understanding of the directive’s core requirements, sector-specific challenges, and practical steps towards compliance.
Product Passports and ETIM: Contradictions or Synergy?

As the EU’s Green Deal continues to take shape, digitalisation efforts such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP) and standardised Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes are transforming the industry. However, these initiatives raise concerns about potential overlaps with existing classification and data exchange standards like ETIM. In this Initiative Multiplier, ETIM International examined whether these new standards complement or conflict with established frameworks. The discussion provided valuable insights into the industry’s evolving landscape and the potential for a more integrated approach to product data management.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward into 2025, EUEW remains dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and equipping our members for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, particularly in light of the new Work Programme 2025 launched by the European Commission.
Stay tuned for more Expert Updates and Initiative Multipliers throughout the coming year!
